The Montreal Asian International Film Festival (MAiFF) aims to support Asian Canadian media arts through creation by artist-driven, theme-based initiatives directed at fostering cultural diversity in Canada; to explore Korean-Canadian and Asian-Canadian identity through the arts and media with both an intercultural and intergenerational lens; to support emerging Asian Canadian artists through showcasing marginalized voices, and to embrace technology and opportunities for cultural and artistic discourse, online and in person, both nationally and globally.
2026 is a major milestone for the film festival, as it officially transform from the Korean Film Festival Canada (KFFC) into MAiFF, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Arts East-West. The theme for this landmark year is Tangibility: Soil, Body, Stories, transitioning from KFFC's previous two-year exploration of Arts & Technologies.
MAiFF 2026 launches during Asian Heritage Month, with our 13th edition running from May 8 to June 13. As a core project of Arts East-West, MAiFF focuses on connecting artists, communities, and the public. Together, we are tending to a sustainable ecosystem for the BIPOC art community, making room for human originality and the quiet power of tactile storytelling in an increasingly digital world.
Our activities showcase film and media arts screenings, roundtable talks, workshops, networking events and exhibitions, per Arts East-West’s tradition.
The 13th MAiFF is supported in partnership with Cinéma du Musée, Cinéma Moderne, Cinéma du Parc, Art Souterrain, KOFA, the General Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Montreal, Ada X, Goethe-Institut Montreal, Groupe Intervention Video, and many of the Korean community groups in Montréal.
