The Pregnant Tree and the Goblin (2019) is an independent, fantastical docu-fiction Korean film by KIM Dongryung and PARK Kyoungtae. This fictional film combines elements of fantasy and historical reality in its reckoning with the afterlives of US military occupation and sexual trauma, empowering Insun to take control of her own fate.
Cemetery of Splendor (2015) by Apichatpong Weerasethakul focuses on a woman treating a soldier with sleeping sickness. Apichatpong’s representation of bodily intimacy on film highlights how personal experiences intersect with social issues and technological advancements through Asian cinema and media arts.
