The 12th Korean Film Festival Canada (KFFC) is excited to unveil EastMeetsWest (EMW), our new category dedicated to showcasing the innovative works of Asian and Asian Canadian filmmakers. This initiative builds on the legacy of the AmérAsia Film Festival, established in 1999 by media artist Mi-Jeong Lee, the founder of Arts East-West. AmérAsia has been a vital platform for Asian Diaspora Arts, celebrating and amplifying diverse media voices. As East Meets West becomes an integral part of KFFC, the festival expands its reach while remaining committed to the spirit of independent and arthouse Korean cinema, creating a dynamic space for diaspora storytelling and creative exploration.
Seamlessly continuing this celebration of “EastMeetsWest” is the inclusion of Masoud Raouf’s "Sea, Carry My Dream/Mer, emporte mon Rêve" (2017). Masoud Raouf, an award-winning Iranian-Canadian filmmaker and animator, infuses his work with deeply personal and resonant themes. Raouf masterfully blends storytelling with animation to explore the complex terrain of exile, trauma, and identity. In "Sea, Carry My Dream," he presents a mesmerizing painted motion poem that transforms the ocean into a canvas of memory and migration. With delicate brushstrokes of color and movement, the film captures the essence of the sea as a space of longing and transformation.Join us at the 12th KFFC 2025, where the evocative storytelling of each director comes together through “EastMeetsWest”.
